Tim Hennig is the General Manager of Boutique Hotel Matlai in Michamvi Pingwe on Zanzibar's east coast, a family-run hotel owned by Inge and Ingulf Becker-Boost. He first came to Zanzibar in 2009 and has lived on the island since 2011. He started WildToSea to share first-hand, honest guidance on Tanzania and Zanzibar — the kind you only get from someone who is actually there.
Who wrote this, and how we check facts
Tim is a hotel general manager, not a licensed safari guide, wildlife scientist or journalist, and this site claims no such qualification, certificate or award. What he knows first-hand is Zanzibar and its east coast: he first came in 2009, visited every couple of months until 2011 and has lived on the island since. For mainland parks, wildlife and tariffs the guides rely on the official and scientific sources they cite, not on personal authority.
Every price, fee, date and distance must trace to a source: an official document (tariff, regulator, press release) or two independent sources, shown with the date it was checked. Park fees are re-read from the TANAPA and NCAA tariffs by a weekly script, and the guides say which tariff year the figures come from; when the newest published tariff is older than the current year, the guide says so. The first person ("I") is used only for things Tim has personally confirmed. If you spot an error, tell us through the contact page and we correct it.
